Gap Inc Applys RFID Tag to clothing tracking and inventory management
March 21, 2024

Gap Inc. is a globally leading professional retail company, primarily offering clothing, accessories, and other goods for adults, women, children, and infants. Sales revenue for products under developing countries in Central America and the Old Navy brand reached $13.6 billion in 2000. Starting from September 1, 2001, Gap Inc. established 4,024 stores in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Japan, and Germany. In the U.S., customers can also purchase the company's products online at gap.com.

Gap Inc. has extensive experience in applying RFID tag identification technology to clothing tracking and inventory management. Nearly 100% of the company's available inventory items are equipped with RFID tags. Upon receiving shipment orders, Gap Inc. employees can immediately identify the corresponding area where clothing of specific sizes and specifications are stored. They can manage and categorize the sizes and specifications of all inventory items using the ID numbers on RFID tags. With the RFID tracking system, stores can avoid customers spending time on "self-searching for products" or having to obtain a shopping ticket upon leaving the store, as all purchase information is stored in RFID tags and the store's management system.

Unlike other ID recognition technologies, RFID technology allows for the simultaneous reading of multiple tags, tracking each clothing tag within the system, whether the clothing is in warehouse packaging boxes, other boxes, or folded on shelves. RFID technology eliminates human errors and the need for visual reading, simplifying inventory management and enabling quick and easy locating and use of pallets, packaging boxes, and individual items in the warehouse.

Gap Inc. has a long history of introducing new technologies to the retail market field. The TI-RFID technology uses 13.56 MHz as the operating frequency, and its application has been widely accepted and adopted by many companies worldwide and extended to many other retail market application areas. The successful on-site testing of this project greatly encourages the promotion of TI-RFID technology in the retail market. As the RFID technology industry continues to grow, the prices of smart tags will continue to decline, and we will see RFID technology applied to a more diverse range of retail market applications.
