How Does A RFID Tag Handle Airport luggage

RFID Airport Luggage Automated Sorting System Technology is changing the way the world works. With the rapid development of the domestic economy and technology, the domestic civil aviation industry has achieved unprecedented growth in recent years. The number of air passengers transported by civil aviation increases each year, and the baggage throughput at major airports has reached a new high. Handling airport luggage is a complex and massive task. In order to improve the efficiency of luggage sorting, major airports have constructed luggage sorting systems, significantly improving the efficiency of luggage processing.

The luggage automatic sorting system is an automated system designed for large and medium-sized airports to transport, sort, and handle passenger luggage in a centralized and unified manner. It is suitable for airports with an annual passenger throughput of over 2 million, particularly essential for hub airports with an annual passenger throughput exceeding 5 million. Traditional luggage sorting systems use barcode identification for sorting. Barcode scanning machines are installed in sorting channels to automatically sort luggage as it passes through. However, barcodes are prone to damage and incomplete barcodes can affect recognition speed and even lead to incorrect identification.

The system utilizes wireless radio frequency technology and writes information such as waybill number, flight number, flight date, quantity, and weight to the RFID  tag when receiving goods. When goods pass through collection devices installed in the cargo yard, luggage information is automatically read. Collection devices include collection stations after security channels, collection terminals at cargo yard entrances, collection terminals for loading onto airplanes, collection terminals for unloading from airplanes, sorting terminals upon arrival, and mobile collection terminals for luggage receipt.

The system enables automatic data collection and node traceability throughout the entire process from goods receipt to warehouse entry and exit, loading and unloading from airplanes, sorting, and receipt. The system and hardware design take into account work habits at various points, do not increase the workload of workers, and fully consider human-computer interaction habits. By using technologies such as the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence, data at various points is intelligently validated. Intelligent prompts are provided to operators at each checkpoint for errors in goods status, lost goods, wrong loading, etc., to proactively prevent the risk of lost goods.

Advantages of the system:

  1. Swift scanning: Unlike one-to-one correspondence in barcode scanning, UHF RFID readers can simultaneously identify and read multiple RFID electronic tags.
  2. Small size, diverse shapes: RFID technology is not limited by size or shape, eliminating the need for fixed paper sizes and print quality.
  3. Stain resistance and durability: Traditional barcodes are on paper, prone to staining, whereas RFID tags store data on chips and are not susceptible to damage.
  4. Reusability: Once printed, most barcodes cannot be changed, whereas RFID tags can have their stored data updated, added, modified, or deleted, simplifying information updating.
  5. Penetrative and barrier-free reading: RFID can penetrate non-metallic or opaque materials like paper, wood, and plastic and communicates penetratively. Barcode scanners require a clear line of sight without obstacles for reading.
  6. Security: As RFID carries electronic information that can be password protected, making data content difficult to counterfeit or manipulate.
